There are many advantages of a conical filter cartridge over the conventional cylindrical design, it includes -

The conical design of the cartridge results in a higher reduction of the upstream velocity at the bottom end cap region. This result in the element being clean off more efficiently due to better settlement, especially when use to filter light dust.
